Fashions fantastique, and Paris gets rowdy (while we do homework?)

Tonight les deux Kristinas are working tirelessly on their Research Methods masterpieces, so Krista has passed the blogging torch onto me (Jenna). Let's hope I can be as entertaining!

I have to start by talking about (quelle surprise) FASHION!!! I love the way people dress here. It's like a city full of Simons, only slightly unwashed and cigarett-ey. The women range from ridiculous "what real person would wear that??" couture, to sort of haphazard effortless chic. And always with the scarves.

I've also noticed lots of women rolling up their jeans to a weird ankle/mid-calf height, paired with sassy shoes, and I've adopted this as it seems to be a sort of uniform among the many petite women here (I'm HOME! no more hemming...) Above is a picture of the super-fun sandals I purchased for this very purpose at a fantastic artisan market Krista and I stumbled upon today. Other fashionable purchases to date:

Krista's much sought-after plaid shirt, complete with multi-functional black belt! and...

Kristina's multicoloured, multi-strand necklace in pretty pastels, displayed on our (not so pretty?) fireplace.

Our adventures for the day included mass destruction - ink accidentally leaked onto bedsheets, a bowl shattered, and (most hilariously) the door handle of the washing machine BROKEN OFF COMPLETELY.... with Krista's clothing stuck inside...

oops. This will be fun to explain to the rental agency tomorrow.

Also, the streets are rowdy tonight as Parisians celebrate the summer solstice with a big, scattered, open-air music festival. Thunderous drum beats drew us into the street outside our apartment, and this is what we found:

A samba band! Naturally, we popped into the nearest corner store for some Heinekens before joining the throng of people parading along behind the drummers. As we walked, we noticed more bands on various street corners.

(I'm sad because she has all the beer?)

Sadly, once we finished our revelling it was back to the apartment for homework and blogging (and Father's Day phone calls!)

Also worth noting:

delicious baked goods...

... which we purchased. Mmmmm.

Mazurki?? Mazierski??

AND

a daytime summer solstice festival in a courtyard...

WITH (!!!)

AN ACCORDION PLAYING MAN!!!

Cheers everyone :)
